He married Mary Dale on 12 Mar 1843, at Sarah Furnace, Bedford, Pennsylvania. The marriage was performed by Esg. Bennet, Justice of the Peace, at the residence of Henry & Hester Dale, David's older sister & husband.

Civil War - Union, 10th Reg. WI Volenteers, Co., I. Enrolled in Plattville, Wisc.

According to his records, David died of Black Jaundice in a military hospital in Bowling Green KY. He was buried there, and later moved by the US Govt. to his present resting place.

Following info is from his military pension files, National Archives, WA DC.:

Excerpt from a letter 13 July 1863, from the Adjucat General's Office, Washington D.C., Commissioner of Pensions; David WINEBRENNER enrolled Sept 9th, 1861, at Plattville in Company I, 10th Regiment of Wisc. Volenteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. Mustered into service as a Private on the 14th day of October 1961, at Milwaukee, Wis. On the Muster Roll of Co. I, of that Reg., for the months of Sept and Oct 1862, he is reported "Dead Sept. 29th, 1862 in Hospital Bowling Green". (signed by Sam Peck, Assistant Adjutant General) *(another document states that David's Regiment was commanded by Col. Chapin of Wisc.)

10 June 1863, Dodge Co., WI - Mary Winebrenner applied for a Widow's Army Pension. She stated no certified marriage record existed for her marriage to David, 12 Mar 1843. She also listed the names and ages of children under 16 at her husbands death:

Henry aged about fifteen years. John W. aged about thirteen years. Mary M. aged about ten years. David aged about eight years. And Hester aged about six years. All of whom reside in Beaver Dam and the three youngest reside with her. (applicant)

27 Oct 1866, Mary submitted for an increase in pension amount. This document listed birth dates for children Hester, David, and Mary M.

A document (no date) in his pension records states Mary was living in Big Rapids, MI when she applied for Arrears of Pension, which was approved by the Govt. in 1879.

US Pension Agency, Chicago IL., 6 Dec 1888; The name Mary Winebrenner who was a pensioner on the rolls of this Agency, under Certificate # 146472, and who was last paid at $12, to 4 September 1888, has been dropped because of death.
