Alex Anchustegui, 76, son of the late Eusebio and Jessie Eguren Anchustegui, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, with family at his side.
A vigil service will held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Our Lady of the Rosary in Boise. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Shoshone, Idaho, with burial at the Shoshone Cemetery in Shoshone. A gathering and reception will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Church hall in Shoshone.
Born Nov. 17, 1933, Alex attended school in Shoshone, and briefly served in the Army. Upon his father's heart attack, he had to leave the service to help his father run the sheep ranch. Most of his life was involved in raising sheep and farming, which he loved very much. He will be remembered most vividly walking out in the pasture with a shovel on his shoulder and a sheep dog at his side. He retired to Boise.
Alex married Judy Townsend and had two children, Justin and Ann Marie, both of Boise. Later he married Elsa Heredia, his wife of 27 years, and added six stepchildren to his family. During his illness, Elsa lovingly cared for Alex at home so that he could be surrounded by loved ones.
Alex is survived by his wife, Elsa; children, Justin (Kelly) and Ann Marie Anchustegui; stepchildren, Janet-lee Murphy (Scot), David Murphy (Beverly), KC Murphy (Jana), Eve Haddock (Tom) and Darrell Murphy (Brenda), all of Boise, and Kim Murphy of Peru; sisters, Marian Janet Barayasarra (James) of Easton, Md., and Rosie Skoro (Chuck) of Boise; five grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boise Basque Museum and Cultural Center or to the American Cancer Society. To share memories with the family, visit Alex's memorial webpage online at www.alex.anchustegui.net.
