Lydia Stone Hanna
Birth: Mar. 25, 1792
Marion County
South Carolina, USA
Death: Dec. 9, 1889
Anson County
North Carolina, USA

Lydia Stone Hanna was the tenth of eleven children born to W. Austin Stone (1748-1818) and his wife Elizabeth Singletary Stone (1751/52-1819) of Marion (later Florence) Co., SC. She was raised on the family's farm. About 1810 Lydia married Robert Hanna (ca. 1780-1875) and the couple moved across the North Carolina border to a farm near Wadesboro, Anson Co. Lydia and Robert had nine children: James H. (b. 1811), William Austin (b. 1813), Margaret J. (b. ca. 1815), Andrew Jackson (b. 1816), Emaline (b. 1816/20), Lydia Ann Cornelia (b. 1823), Adeline (b. 1831/32), Robert Alexander (b. 1835), and Eugenia (b. ca. 1840). After Robert's death, Lydia remained at the family homestead, cared for by daughters Margaret and Eugenia. She died at the sovereign age of 97 years.

The longevity of the Hanna family was a source of pride to the county:

The Wilmington STAR thinks there is no man living who is more than a hundred years old. Perhaps there is not, but we feel quite sure there is a lady living about a mile and a half southwest of Wadesboro, who is more than five score years of age--Mrs. Lydia Hanna. We were so informed a few days ago by her son, John, who is himself 76 years old.
