His parents were John Patton Ferguson (18181897) and Ann Bath Edwards (18191872).

Per the US Federal Census enumerations, Samuel and his parents and siblings resided in Lawrence County, Kentucky.

On July 12, 1863, Samuel enlisted into the rank of corporal at Ashland, Kentucky, as shown below:

In 1879 Samuel married Mary Ellen Wilson (18551937). Samuel and Mary's children are Rosa, Charles, John William and Samuel.

The 1900 US Federal Census shows Samuel and Mary living with their children Rosa, Charles, Augustus and (John) William in Sundance Town, Crook County, Wyoming.

The 1910 US Federal Census shows Samuel and Mary residing in Huntington Beach, Orange County, California.

In 1912 Samuel went for treatment at the U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California.

After receiving treatment, he returned home to Huntington Beach.
The 1920 US Federal Census shows Sam and Mary in their home in Huntington Beach, Orange County, California.

Corp'l. Samuel Ferguson passed away June 5, 1922 in Huntington Beach, Orange, California.

His family was always proud of him.
He was an American hero.
