George Shellenberger died at his home in Allen, Kansas, October 7th at 12 o'clock noon, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 9 days after a lingering illness of several months. All the family were at the bedside when the end came.
He was the oldest son of Chris and Christina Shellenberger. He was born near Strassburg, Alsace Lorraine, France. About the age of eight, this country was taken in war by Germany. Then his education was in the German Language.
He was confirmed and joined the Lutheran church at the age of fourteen.
At the age of sixteen he arrived in New York City with twenty-five cents in money and indebted to an uncle at Marysville, Kansas, for his passage to this country. He spent eight years in Marshall county.
He came to Morris County, where he was married to Miss Emma Yahn of Dunlap, Kansas, April 18, 1887. In 1894 they moved to a farm near Olpe. In l897 they moved to a farm near Americus, Kansas, residing there until they moved to the Shellenberger Ranch north of Bushong, Kansas, in l905. Mr. and Mrs. Shellenberger retired from active farming in l919, when they moved to Allen, Kansas.
Those surviving are: the widow Mrs. Emma Shellenberger: six sons Fred, John and Virgil, all of Bushong, Kansas,; Ralph of Americus, Kansas,; Everett of Genesco, Kansas,; Pearl L. of Miller, Kansas,;and one daughter Mrs. R. W. McInnis of Allen, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Shellenberger celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in April of 1937 at the old home place, north of Bushong, Kansas. All of the children and a host of old-time friends were present.
Mr. Shellenberger's life was centered around his family and grandchildren. He wll not only be missed greatly by his relatives, but also by his many Allen friends, among whom he has spent the past twenty years.

GEO. SHELLENBERGER DIES, FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAYH
Funeral services for George Shellenberger, who died at his home in Allen, Kansas, Saturday, October 7th, at 12 o'clockoon, after a lingering illness of several months were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Chalmer Hopper, pastor of the Allen Methodist Church and Mrs. Charles Young, of Dunlap, Kansas officiated. A quartet composed of Miss Nickel Reaburn, Miss Mary Ellen Howell, Lyle Davis, and DeWitt Reaburn sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "In the Garden" and "Going Down the Valley." They were accompanied by Mrs. E. G. Haas. Pall-bearers were: John Gibson, August Holle, William Porter, Berne Davis, Henry Moore and Mac Lemmon. Burial was in the Agnes City Cemetery, north of Bushong, Kansas.
