Inscription:
From the best interpretation possible from the gravestone photo, and knowing the church and civil offices that he held at his death, the inscription possibly reads:

Here Lies ye Body of Dea.
Ebenezer Wales Esqr, who
died April 12, 1776 in
ye 7[?] year of his Age.
[multiple lines of verse]

Based on his recorded date of birth at Milton, Mass., on the day Ebenezer died he was 79 years old, and tatis su (i.e., , "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 80. Thus, the statement of his age at death, in accordance with how age was stated on gravestones well into the early 1800s (using an English variant of the Latin "tatis su"), is incorrect.
