Born to Henry Babad Monges, a vocational deacon of the Episcopal church, who was a native of Philadelphia ordained in Texas who served as chaplain in the Texas Rangers CSA. Raised in Martinez, CA, he graduated in the University of California class of 1896 with a degree in electrical engineering and was employed by GE. He worked at GE headquarters in Schenectady, NY and after service in the Spanish American War he returned and was then assigned to Portland, Oregon where he rose to be engineer in charge. He retired to Berkeley, and became manager of the Alta Vista Country Club in Richmond, CA. He was recalled by GE to take charge of the San Francisco office during WWII. He was active in the Spanish American War Veterans and the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the Contra Costa BSA Council, and was a faithful visitor of Spanish-American War veterans at the Oakland, CA VA Hospital, doing both until his death. He was highly regarded by his associates at GE and a circle of prominent faculty at Cal, especially on the faculties of Engineering and Physics. Beloved by his family and friends, he was locally famous for his Sunday Night Suppers when he held open house for friends and colleagues.
