Albert Fitzgerald McDonald
Birth: Jul. 6, 1859
Death: Aug. 16, 1924

Born in Elkmont Alabama, July 6, 1859.
Raised by widowed mother and an uncle on the farm. At age 21 he went to Nashville to work for the L+N Railroad Co. for 6 years. Moved to Texas in 1883 and farmed at Willspoint till 1886 when he married Cornelia Gray and soon obeyed the Gospel. Then moved to Buffalo Gap in 1889, and on to Abilene in 1892. With no church in Abilene they met at a Blacksmith shop in Buffalo Gap until Bro. Price Billingsly proposed and formed a church in Abilene in 1898. A.F. became very interested in Christian education when Bro. Barrett came to Abilene in 1906 and proposed a Christian college. Bro. McDonald worked hard and gave his time and money to The Childers Classical Institute which was later named Abilene Christian College. He became one of the first Trustees and remaind so for 17 years. He had been heard to say "I consider the money spent in Christian Education, the best investment of my life".

The McDonalds moved to Lubbock in 1914 where he carried on an extensive business in Livestock and operated the McDonald Livery Stable until his death in 1924. He made many friends and was really a friend to others. Using the words of Emerson, we express our thoughts about his friendship, "A friend may well be reckoned a masterpiece of nature." We know him because he gave his life for others and didn't think of himself.
