Grace Olsen Ahlstrom, 94, of Orem, Utah, died Friday, June 2, 2000.
She was born March 11, 1906, in Spring City, Utah, to Charles Alfred and Rosey M. Blain. She married Dwane Ahlstrom on May 21, 1929, in Farmington, UT. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He passed away July 13, 1999.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in many capacities in both ward and stake. She and her husband had also served in the Provo LDS Temple.
She graduated from Snow College in 1927 and taught school in Garfield County, where she met Dwane. After they were married, they lived in Tropic for 10 years, then moved to Provo and later to Orem in 1979. Grace worked for Tiny-Tot Bonnet Company and also for a child care center during World War II. She was an excellent seamstress and made beautiful hand-pieced quilts for others, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also made and gave away many baby quilts, always keeping a few on hand for charity purposes. She enjoyed doing various types of crafts, and with her husband, decorated and redecorated their two homes, which she helped Dwane build.
She was a generous and charitable person and always available to help with grandchildren. She and Dwane helped care for a handicapped grandson and others. She was always willing to help those in need, whether relatives, neighbors or friends. She enjoyed having visitors, and often provided a night's lodging and a meal or two. She loved being with her family as often as possible, and served many large dinners on holidays and special occasions. She and Dwane faithfully attended weddings, funerals, mission farewells, birthdays, and all family get-togethers, and even after his death less than a year ago, and in spite of her failing health, she continued to go as often as she could. She was very happy to be able to attend the blessing of her first great-great-grandchild just a few weeks before her death.
She is survived by two daughters, Mignon (Monroe) Gallier, Sherrie (John) Hundley; eight grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rose Olsen; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
