Mary M. Christensen Duckett Anhder
Mary Margaret Christensen Duckett Anhder passed away peacefully, as she slept, early Friday morning, February 11, 2005. Many of her beloved family were blessed to spend precious time with her in the hours before her passing. Thank you, Mother. Though tears are shed at the thought of not hearing her kind words, encouragement, and wisdom; or the touch of her gentle hands, we find peace and hope in our knowledge of a sweet reunion to come!
Mary Margaret was born to Florence and Andrew Christensen on October 16, 1913, in Provo, UT. The second of eight children, she is survived by two twin brothers, and her dear sister, Gloria Kuhni. After her education, she married her sweetheart, Arthur L. Duckett, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children: Mary Lynne Clark, Steven A. Duckett, J. Colette Merrill, and Michele Walker; sixty-eight grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In 1971, Arthur passed away. In 1974, she married Theo Anhder. Theo became a beloved member of our family and wonderful grandfather. In later life, they served as workers in the Provo Temple.
During her life, Mary worked at BYU in the College of Continuing Ed., and as the secretary to the Mayor of Provo. She was dedicated in her church service, in community affairs, and had a great desire to assist when family, friends, or neighbors needed help or spirits buoyed. A talented artist, she wrote poetry, and painted with oil and watercolors. One of her greatest loves was nature itself. Her knowledge of horticulture was vast and her gardens showed it! She loved travel, reading, politics, and fashion. She taught us things important and elegant. She loved with all her heart. Her strength, her grace, her delightful humor, and her tremendous love ... Mary, our matriarch, our friend, our teacher -- we are forever grateful.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15th, at noon, in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem. Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.; and, Tuesday, from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
