Robert Kicklighter was born in Greenville, SC. He attended Alexander Elementary School, Tanglewood Junior High School, and graduated from Carolina High School in 1972. Robert went on to attend Cecil's Business College in Greenville to pursue a career as a business support specialist. He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and worked for Bell Telephone before moving to Augusta, Georgia in the late 1970's. Robert moved to Houston, Texas in the 1980's where he worked for AT&T. He was predeceased by a brother in 1990, Douglas Kicklighter.
