Jerri Nichols, who's Mother, Kathy Ellen Nichols trained Quarter Horses, began her career as a Jockey at Delta Downs in Louisiana in 1988. Jerri was one of the leading riders Hoosier Park in Indiana in 1995. Jerri won over 1000 races in her career.
Jerri was married to fellow Jockey, Kirk LeBlanc.

Jerri Nichols-LeBlanc was killed in a tragic automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Mrs. Kirk LeBlanc, age 35, the former Jerri Nichols, who passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006 in Jefferson Davis Parish.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette. The Rev. Calvin Robinson will officiate at the services.

Mrs. LeBlanc grew up in Denham Springs and had been a resident of Lafayette for more than 15 years. She was employed as a jockey for more than 20 years, traveling within the states. She accomplished much in the racing industry. Aside from being an extraordinary person, she was her husband's soul mate and best friend, and a devoted and unconditional, loving Mom to her two children.

Survivors include her husband, Kirk LeBlanc of Lafayette; one son, Kasey Toups of Lafayette; one daughter, Levie "Tookie" Gisclar of Carencro; one brother, Chucky Johnson of Arkansas; three sisters, Bonnie Robinson and her husband, Calvin, of Hineston, LA, Deanna Nichols of Arkansas, and Sissy McKinney of Folsom, LA; her lifelong best friend, Regena Stelly; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathy Ellen Nichols, native of Baton Rouge; and an uncle, Harold "Shag" Noble.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro,in charge of arrangements.
