George Washington Parks is the first born son of George Washington Parks and Rebecca Morton. He was born on February 22, 1816 in Maine. His family migrated from Maine to Ohio around 1825 settling first around Zanesville, and later to Licking and Marion Counties.

He was married to Rebecca Copeland on September 21, 1836 in Licking County, Ohio. They had four children, three of which grew to adulthood. The family left Ohio and moved to Hardin County, Iowa.

George died on November 25, 1903 and is buried in Eldora Cemetery, in Hardin County.

The following obituary ran in the Des Moines Daily Capital on November 26, 1903.

Parks - George Washington, died at 8:15 o'clock last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. V. Willcox, 2416 Kingman Boulevard. Deceased was 88 years of age and his death was due to the infirmities of old age which have rendered him an invalid for the past six months. He was born in Fairfield, Hancock county, Maine, February 22, 1815, and moved to Ohio with his parents when but ten years of age. He was married to Rebecca Copeland in Licking County, Ohio, September 21, 1836, and moved to Iowa with his family in the fifties. For a number of years we resided at Union, Iowa and later moved to Eldora. Shortly after the death of his wife in 1895 he came to Des Moines and has since made his home with his only daughter. Mr. Parks was a carpenter by trade. He is survived by a twin sister and several other sisters and brothers residing near Columbus, Ohio, and leaves besides his daughter, two sons, F. M. Parks of Omaha, Nebraska, and C. A. Parks of Marshalltown, Iowa. Deceased was a Mason in good standing, a member of the Christian church and a veteran of the Civil war. His remains will be taken to Eldora tomorrow for interment by those of his of his wife. The Masonic lodge of Eldora, will have charge of the burial.
