Elvira "Effie" Grippo Gatti
Birth: Apr. 18, 1904
Lackawanna County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Feb. 6, 1963
Hartford County
Connecticut, USA

Elvira Grippo was the third of six children born to Italian immigrants, Mary Guida and Frank Grippo, in Scranton, PA. She grew up at 1028 Luke Avenue. On Feb. 6, 1921 she married Domenick Gatti with whom she had five children. Domenick worked as a police officer in Scranton until 1933. The family moved to Bristol, CT in mid 1940 where Domenick had found work with the Wallace Barnes Company. They rented at 103 Pine Street and then 20 Fenn Street in Bristol before purchasing a home at 446 King Street where they were living when Effie died. Domenick and Effie always had beautiful gardens and fruit trees. Their home on King Street had wooden shelves in the basement filled with jars of fruits and vegetables Effie canned. It also had her wringer washer, Domenick's tools and the most wonderful musty smell. A wonderful cook, her nimble fingers quickly pinched and rolled her homemade cavatelli and her pizza was legendary.
