Ethel "Jean" Hickman Blue
Birth: Jan. 16, 1935
Natchitoches Parish
Louisiana, USA
Death: Aug. 23, 2002
Midland County
Texas, USA

Jean Blue, 67 of Midland, died on Friday, August 23, 2002 at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was our beloved wife, Mother, Granny, and Great Granny "Blue". She was born on January 16, 1935 in Clarence Louisiana to the parents of Weaver James and Gertrude Ham Hickman. Her early childhood name was "Jean Doll".

She married Delmas Wayne blue, Sr. on June 21, 1952 in Beaumont, Texas. They had five children. Jean and Wayne had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She and Wayne moved to Midland in 1955 from Orange Texas. She was a housewife and a member of the Pentecostal Church International. Jean was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center. She was a Band, Orchestra, Soccer, and AF JROTC Booster. She operated "Granny's Taxi Service" for many years making sure that our children got to and from their many and varied destinations. In her spare time she enjoyed making porcelain dolls, quilts, and other crafts. She had 10 grandchildren of whom she delighted in and one great-granddaughter on which she doted. How she would have loved the two recent additions of Danny and Madelyn. Jean and Wayne had another baby late in life, their beloved pet yorkie, "Baby".

She became an excellent nurse when her youngest daughter, Janet, was treated for breast cancer first, then myeloid leukemia. Shortly before her passing, Jean had gotten the report that Janet was considered "cured" of both diseases. It was during her stays at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston with Janet that she made her quilt squares. At her memorial service her remains were beautifully draped by one of her quilts. On the back wall hung another quilt. Scattered among the flower tributes were some of her porcelain dolls. Never one to pass up a chance to "show off my babies" (grandchildren) were many photos of her, her children and her precious grandbabies.

Jean is greatly missed by her friends, family and acquaintances for her sweet disposition, her quite spirit, her gentle nature and her ever-helping hand. The impact she had on our family will be forever felt. Because of her loving hands on our lives, we are/will be made better daughters, wives, mothers, sons, husbands, and fathers.

Mama so odd to see Janet's note to you and now she rests with you (or are you both out shopping?!) Your loss has forever affected us all. You were the center and the glue of our family. Your example is what we 'girls' try to emulate in our own families. L...(Read more)
