ISAAC MCCOLLUM

Death of a Member of the Infirmary Board

Infirmary Director Isaac McCollum died at his home in Center Township, at 2 o'clock on Monday, March 25, of pneumonia after an illness of four days, prior to which he had been in usual health. The news of his death was a shock to his friends and acquaintances who had seen and done business with him but a few days before. He was one of the best men in the county, an upright citizen, a faithful public officer, a devoted member of the church, an old soldier and a sterling Republican. His parents were Isaac McCollum and Nancy Gray, both of whom came to this county from New Jersey. There were married April 27, 1831 and where the parents of nine children, all of whom are dead save Alexander, James, Mary and John. Isaac McCollum was the eighth child and was born in 1845. He grew to manhood, married and partially reared a family in the county of his nativity. He was for many years a resident of Jefferson Township, where he filled several positions of trust, but of late years he has resided in Center, where he lived when he was nominated without his knowledge or solicitation in 1887 for infirmary director to which position he was elected by a good majority. He was a member and a deacon of the Presbyterian church at Washington and a member of the Robinson post, G.A.R. and Eureka lodge, No. 233, F & A.M. The funeral on Tuesday was largely attended, Rev. C.R. McCracken officiating.
