Quintus, the oldest son of Thomas Cleopas Colwell and Tyva Whatley Colwell, lived his entire life north of Mountain View. He attended elementary school at Oakdale and graduated from Mountain View.
Quintus and Claudean Miller were married on June 27, 1943 at the home of Quintus' parents.
Quintus started running the mechanic part of the Colwell Garage in 1945, after he returned from the service during World War II. In December of 1957, the garage burned down when gasoline was accidentally spilled and caught fire by an open-flamed heater. The friendly community of Mountain View rebuilt the garage on the same foundation as the old one. He gave good service to his community, doing many thank-you jobs and going out during the middle of the night or on his days off to work on irrigation pumps or to help someone whose car was broken down.
In 1955, Quintus and Claudean purchased a home in the Cowden area and moved it onto the land where the Cottonwood School once sat, two miles east of the Colwell Garage. Here they raised their six children who all graduated from Mountain View High School. On Sunday mornings you would find them all filling up a pew at the Mount Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church and later after Mount Vernon disbanded, at the Mountain View Baptist Church.
