His wife Anna Hallowell Gebard was left with 6 living children: Hattie [1877-1969], Isabell [1879-1972], Elmer [1880-1946], Henry Martin [1882-1944], George [1885-1976], and Lydia M [1887-1981]. They lost two sons John [1888-89], and Ade [1889-1890] in IL.
Before his murderer was released from the penitentiary [1 yr sentence], Anna left Atwood, IL April 11, 1892 with her parents George W Hallowell and Lydia Beery Hallowell, sister Jane Hallowell and husband Thomas Swain, and sister Isabelle Hallowell along with brother Daniel. They settled in Groveland, Iowa south of Osceola. All are buried in Iowa except Lydia who returned to Farmer City, IL after George's death to live with son Daniel Hallowell who had returned in Illinois.
All of John's children remained in Iowa and are buried there. His son George Gebard's birth certificate states John's name as John Adlaska Gebard, born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was known as "Ad".
