George Coleman Nockolds, the son of Lt. Col. Coleman Nockolds and Rita Marie Georgette Woodward Nockolds, was born at the Presidio in San Francisco, California.
He and his family moved around the country with his father who was a career military man. After his father retired, the family settled in Homestead, Florida, where they had a farm and raised citrus, strawberries and avacados. George C. was valedictorian of his Homestead High School graduating class. After a few years the family moved to Coral Gables, Miami, Florida.
He enrolled in the Univerisity of Miami where he studied Architecture. He met and married Eleanor Florine Mool who was also a student there. There were 3 children of this marriage, Josephine Georgette, Eleanor Rosemary and Coleman Nockolds.
"Nock" was with the Miami Herald for a few years and moved to Houston, Texas in 1937, to work for the Houston Chronicle. He raised his family in Houston and retired there from The Chronicle.
During World War II he enlisted in the Texas State Guard. After the War, he was honorably discharged and commended for his service and patriotism.
"Nock" was an avid fisherman with many tales to tell. He began as a child in California and continued in Florida and Texas. He and Eleanor "Emmy" had many friends and were devoted parents and grandparents.
George C. Nockolds died at the age of 70 and is buried in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas, next to his wife, Eleanor.
