Joseph & Mary were the parents of four children, all four were born in Marengo County, Alabama, the children were John Bethel, Nancy Amanda, Charles M. B. and James Desire Roberts.
John and Charles were the namesakes of pastors who had conducted services at the Nanafalia Baptist church. James middle name 'Desire' was his maternal grandfather's given name. Nancy was the name of Nancy Amanda's maternal grandmother.
