Ewing Brownfield Searight, the second son of William and Rachel Brownfield Searight, was born in the Village of Searights, Menallen Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

He was educated in the common schools and grew to manhood on the home farm. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits and which he followed successfully throughout the active years of his life.

On February 3, 1859, Ewing married Elizabeth Jackson (daughter of Zadoc and Lydia (Woodward) Jackson of Menallen Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania).

There were two children, a son and a daughter:

His daughter, Rachel August 26, 1860 - August 11, 1882, married Charles J. McCormick and left a son, Searight Ray McCormick born August 11, 1882.

His son, William Searight, born August 11, 1863, married Jennie Louise Patterson.

Ewing was a man of influence in his community and active in political affairs and religious matters of his township.

He was the owner of farm and coal lands. He was a staunch Democrat, and with his wife, an ardent member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Ewing served as auditor of his township for ten years and as school director from 1869 to 1875 and was a director of the poor house of his county for six years

Ewing Brownfield Searight was one of the most popular superintendents of the National Road or "Old Pike" in Fayette County, was noted for his efficiency.

Ewing Brownfield Searight is buried near the front door of the Grace Episcopal Church near his father and mother.
