Daughter of Joseph and Lydia (Shinaberry) Davis. Mary was born in Knox County, Ohio.
Mary was wed to George Hawley in the early 1840s at Mt. Vernon, Knox, Ohio and relocated, along with most of the Davis family to Union County.
After her marriage she located on the Hawley Family farm between Marysville and Milford Center, Ohio, no doubt contributing to the family success as they continued to develop the family farm in to a viable business.
After the death of her father-in-law, her husband George bought out his brothers interest in the farm, making it the sole responsibility of their family by the middle 1860s.
After her husband's death in 1888 she resided with her daughter Emma Hawley Johnson and son-in-law Carl Johnson on the family farm (The Johnson's slowly bought out the interests from 2 of Mary's sons.
Mary Hawley died in late 1902 and was buried next to her husband, a son who died in the Civil War and her daughter who died at a young age of consumption.
