THOROLD R. COLE 36, Wabash, died of head injuries received when a fighter plane struck a crippled bomber at an Okinawa airfield July 30, 1945. Pfc Cole was on duty at the time and died as the result of bomb blast injuries.

Born in Somerset Aug 20, 1908, he later moved to Wabash where he was employed at the Spencer Cardinal factory and belonged to the First United Brethren church.

He entered service March , 1943 and went overseas in Dec 1944. Notification was received by his widow, Mrs. Mary Cole, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cole, all of Wabash.

NEWS - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - 1949
The body of Pfc. Thorold E. Cole, 36, is being returned here from the Pacific area aboard the U.S. Army transport, Dalton Victory, Mrs. Mary Ann Code, 1338 Glen Avenue, the widow, has been informed.

The Jones Funeral Home will arrange the services after word has been received of the exact day of arrival. Pfc. Cole is one of 141 war dear being returned to Indiana from the Pacific area. Cole died of injuries received in action on July 30, 1945 on Okinawa.

The decedent was born in Somerset Aug. 20, 1908 to Ernest and Mabel (Oswalt) Cole. He was married to Miss Mary Ann Gregg, who with the parents, survive. Other survivors include two brothers, Cyril and L.D. Cole, Wabash, and a siser, Mrs. Gerald Tyler.

He entered the service March 1, 1943 and went overseas in December 1944.

FUNERAL - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - 1949
The body of Thorold R. Cole, 36, Wabash, who died in Okinawa of injuries when a fighter plane struck a crippled bomber July 30, 1945, will arrive in Wabash Thursday afternoon at 4:49 over the Wabash railroad. The body will be taken to the Jones Funeral Home where friends may call Thursday evening. Graveside military services will be conducted by the American Legion #at Falls Cemetery Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
