Fathers Story
Bogumil Sykora was born in Glinsk, Russia, the son of Josef Sykora, composer and conductor of the Imperial Russian Band. While studying at the Kiev Conservatory of Music, he lived in the home of his father's friend, the family of the Reinhold M. Gliere.

After graduating from both the Kiev and Leipzig Conservatories, his master Julius Klengal appeared with him in his debut, January 20, 1911 at Kauthauss, Leipzig. They gave the first performance of J. Klengel's Second Concerto for Two Cellos.

Sykora was then invited by Alexander Glazunov to give a recital February 16, 1911 in the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music. From that performance, four days later, he was invited to play a personal concert for the Imperial Family.

Bogumil toured extensively through Russia, Caucasus, Siberia, Western Europe, Asia, Africa and all the countries of North, Central and South America.

His American debut at Carnegie Hall in 1919 was followed by tours throughout the United States. The only live recording we currently have was played for the Jewish War Relief and raised over $100,000.

Following these tours, Bogumil travelled to Japan where he gave 80+ recitals throughout Japan. While there he was honored to give the first concert by a foreign artist for the Imperial Family and some 600+ leaders of Japan.

The Latin American tours were a long series marked by appearances for seventeen presidents of these republics. Many South American composers and poets dedicated their compositions to him.

During his artistic career, he has given nearly 2,000 recitals throughout the world.
