Will Fortenberry was a Minister of the Gospel in the Assembly of God Church. He was one of founders of the 5th Street Assembly of God Church in Duncan. He was married to Ida Mabry Feb.19, 1899 at Webbers Falls,Indian Terr. He was the son of Thomas Bandy Fortenberry (CSA Veteran) and Mary Ann Stephens. He was the grandson of Oliver Rice Fortenberry and Nancy Hider Bandy. Will spent his childhood on the family farm in Briartown, Youngers Bend, Indian Terr.,Okla. Briartown is where Tom Starr and his son, Sam Starr and Sam's wife, Belle Starr lived. The Mabrys and Starrs were cousins. One night,Will was at a dance at Belle Starr's home when a shooting occurred. A stray bullet went in one of Will's shoulders and came out the other. Grandmother Ida said in her diary that he had trouble with the wound all his life. Will and Ida and the Fortenberry family had a large bottom land farm on the South Canadian River. Will was then called to be a minister of the Gospel. Will's father, four brothers and a sister were also ministers.
