Henderson
Mr. and Mrs. Les Henderson of Running Springs celebrated their 70th anniversary July 15 at the home of Jack and Lucy Eiswert in Running Springs. The long-time residents were honored at a party hosted by the community's Women's Club and Lion's Club at which time a letter of congratulations from President Ronald Reagan was presented to them.
Mr. Henderson formerly owned a plumbing business in Running Springs.

From an article from a Running Springs, CA. newspaper, entitled "Neighbor of the Week":
Les Henderson is probably one of the best known residents of Running Springs. He and his wife, Ann, have lived in this community for about 22 years.
No one could be better classed as 'native' Californians than the Hendersons, especially Les, since he was born and raised in San Bernardino, as were his mother and father. Ann, daughter of John and Etta (Leedom) Bostwick, was a true daughter of California. She was born (15 Sept. 1892) in Bloomington (S.B. Co.), and raised in Colton (S. B. Co.). Both of their families could be called true 'pioneer' stock, since they migrated to the west by covered wagons many years ago. Les was a master plumber in Los Angeles for a long time, while Ann taught for many years in the Los Angeles School System. Les, retired officially the first time around 1945, at which time he and Ann left Los Angeles to move to Running Springs. They built their home at 31734 Valley View Drive, and it was at about this time that Les discovered Running Springs was without a competent plumber. He immediately 'un-retired' himself and went into the plumbing business as a contractor.
He was joined later in this business by his son, Donald, who was discharged from the Army Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant. Les and Don remained in business until Don formed Timberlane Homes, Inc. and Les retired for the second time. Don and Margie (Dahl) Henderson, over the years, presented Ann and Les with six grandchildren.
The Henderson's daughter, Norma, lives in Saratoga, California, and is married to Jim Fulton who is plant engineer for Lockheed Missles at Sunnyvale.
Retirement for Ann and Les is far from a boring existence, due to their many interests. They spend part of their time 'down the hill' visiting their many friends, and taking care of their business interests, and during the heavy snow season, they stay in an apartment they own in Highland. They are both active in the Native Sons and Daughters of California, an organization in which Les was twice President, in both 1939 and 1955. They were both dedicated workers in helping to start the Women's Community Clubhouse, the building in which most of the town's social events are presently held. Ann is twice Past President of the Running Springs Women's Club, and a very active member, while Les is a member of the Running Springs Lions Club, one of the charter members and a Past President of the organization.
Les is one of the most ardent sports fans in the mountains, and follows Rim High School's games. His one true love, other than Ann, of course, is the USC Trojans. Les never fails to purchase season tickets to all of Troy's football games, and seldom misses a game.
The Hendersons love fun and dancing, and if possible, they never miss a party or a dance. Even during the last Snow-Ball dance, when Ann was suffering with a sprained ankle, and she couldn't dance, the Hendersons were there! People like Les and Ann, we can't get along without, here or any place else!

NEWLYWEDS? - Not really, but they act like it. Pictured are Ann and Les Henderson on their 65th wedding anniversary. The Witch's Cottage restaurant was the scene of a festive reception Sunday for the Hendersons who were joined by nearly 100 guests to help them celebrate. Relatives and old and new friends came from far and near to honor the couple who pioneered Running Springs. Hosted by Running Springs Women's Club and Lions Club, guests were welcomed at the door by President, Jane Woodman, President Ed Perry, and chairperson of the event, Carol Day. Festivities included a champagne punch and a huge buffet table.
