David Raymond Williams, 62, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011. David was born to Bernard and Shirley Williams on May 9, 1949 in Meadville, Pa. His early education was in Meadville, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family, particularly at the Last Man Standing Camp. As a young man his love of the outdoors led him to Colorado where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. in 1971. He then hunted, fished and guided in Crested Butte, Colo., before moving to Montana in 1985. In 1988 David moved to West Yellowstone and was employed by Bud Lilly's Trout Shop, where remained a faithful guide and friend. In 1992 he married the love of his life, Sherrie Shirah. Together they hunted and fished both here and around the world. He gave her a life she'd never dreamed of. Their marriage produced four off-Springer Spaniels, Charlie, Handsome 'Doc' Williams, Dottie of West Yellowstone, and Billie on Boundary Street. In addition to his dogs, he loved being surrounded by the abundant wildlife in the West Yellowstone area, particularly the birds.
David is survived by his best friend and wife, Sherrie Williams; son, Michael Shirah (Kels Wheeler), daughter Jennifer Shirah, and granddaughter Madison Shirah; sisters Linda (Bill) Eriksson of Erie, Pa. (niece Kate), Candy Williams of Gunnison, Colo.; cousin Michael Stainbrook of Petersburg, Ala., with whom David traveled across country and shared many stories. He is survived by aunts, uncles and many cousins in the Pennsylvania area.
Memorial contributions are suggested for pet food to be donated to the West Yellowstone Social Service Food Bank.David had a quick wit and generous spirit. He made friends wherever he went in his day and life. He will be missed by them all. A celebration of David's life will be on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 6 p.m. at the Doleszal Cabin, mile marker 3, north of West Yellowstone on Hwy 191.
