My Precious Friend
Andrea Lisa Plaza was born in Bakersfield, CA. She was raised in Shafter and graduated from Shafter High School. She was a correctional officer with Wasco State Prison. Andrea was the sweetest, loving person you could ever meet. She was a loving mother, the best daughter, sister and friend to many. She lived life to the fullest, always having more than one activity going on at the same time. But she always managed to get them done, whether it was being the wrestling mom; who always had food and drinks ready for the whole team, cheer mom, softball coach, dancing, or having a BBQ with friends and family.
Family was the most important part of her life. Andrea always made time to stop and say hi with that big smile that everyone knew so well. She traveled all over the United States to watch her kids wrestle and never left home without her camera. Alex said she can count on one hand the number of wrestling matches her mom missed. Andrea was loved by so many friends, family, and co-workers.
We thank you all for loving her so much. Her smile will be missed by many, especially her dearest friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday July 29th, from 2-5 p.m. at Peter's Funeral Home in Shafter. Andrea's daughter, has requested for everyone to wear something red and bring a red balloon, as that was Andrea's favorite color. Thank you.

Andrea Plaza-Santa Cruz, 38
Shot to death July 23 at her home. She was shot by her husband, Angel Sammy Santa Cruz, 44, who then killed himself. She was a correctional officer at Wasco State Prison where he was a captain.
Andrea came into and became my friend when I was having a difficult time in my life. Her beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, friendliness and genuine concern for others was just what I needed. She was like an Angel, making me laugh, telling me stories, jokes, sharing her life with me, and bringing me Starbucks coffee. We both worked for the Dept. of Corrections, she would stop by my desk at work every chance she got, and she always brightened my day. I will always remember Andrea and her loving kindness. In another place, she still shines brightly.
I want to thank all of you that stop by to leave Andrea a flower or token. It means so much to me. Please say a prayer for Andrea and for her two children that were left behind to grow up without their mother. She truely was a wonderful mother to her children.
Thank you and Bless you, DORIS L. BASHEER, TSgt, USAF, DoeGurl
for sponsoring my friend's memorial. Your kindness means so much to me.
