Ashlee was a beautiful and sweet toy poodle. She came into my life as a rescue dog. She was used as a breeding dog for much of her life and forced to have puppy after puppy to make money for the owner. When I got her, she had bad teeth, had not been spayed, and had very little care.

I, of course, spoiled her rotten from the very first day. She had her teeth cleaned and some removed, was groomed, was spayed (The vet said she was full of scar tissue and her organs were all twisted up from having so many puppies and she nearly died), and gave her the very best food and care.

She and I became the best of friends right away. She was always right with me and even nibbled on my arm to show her affection. I have never seen another dog do it. She would nibble very lightly up and down.

She was one of the sweetest dogs that I have ever known. I loved her so very much and I still miss her terribly. She became suddenly ill in September of 2006 and it was determined that she had lung cancer. She could not breathe and there was no hope of recovery or treatment. She was only 10 (Which is pretty young for a small dog) but all of the years of poor care likely attributed to her developing cancer.

Out of love for her, I had to make the difficult decision to put her to sleep. She died peacefully after lots of hugs and kisses at a local vet's office on September 14, 2006.

She was cremated and her remains were returned to me. They sit in my china cabinet with her beautiful little rhinestone collar on the top. Rest in peace my darling angel. I love you!

I'm Still Here

Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer's night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warn raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon shine is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to through the Lord up above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me friend, I'm every place!
