Delmer A. Haddix, 77, of Mason City died March 7, 1995 at his home in Mason City Nebraska.
Funeral services were March 11, 1995 at 2 p.m. at Grovier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Violet Stithem officiating. Music was provided by Frances Beals, organist, and Kenneth Stithem, soloist.
Casket bearers were John Mills, Charles Zimmer, LaVern Duryea, Irwin Hawkins, Tim Brandt and George Bundy. Honorary casket bearers were the Custer county Highway Department employees and the Judson charge of the arrangements.
Memorials have been established to the Mason City EMTs and to Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow Nebraska.
Haddix was born June 15, 1917 northeast of Mason City to Samuel and Theresa Winona (Hammond) Haddix. He attended school at Gray Stone through the eighth grade. After his schooling, he drove a truck for C.R. Bristol Feed Store. On April 14, 1939, He was married to Gertrude Louise Hastings in Litchfield, Nebraska. Their first son, Clyde, was born June 8, 1939 in Mason City. The family moved to Ansley, where a daughter, Darlene, was born April 22, 1941. In 1941, Haddix became employed with the Custer County Highway Department as a road maintenance worker. And the family moved south of Ansley. Another son, Leo, was born Oct. 31, 1943. In 1959, the family moved south of Mason City, where their third son, Randy, was born Aug.22 1961. He continued to maintain roads for Custer County until retiring in 1987. He continued to work part time for two years maintaining roads for the Ansley Township. He worked for 50 years maintaining roads.
He was a member of the Royal Neighbors and Community Service Club. Survivors include his wife of Mason City; sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde, Phoenix, Ariz., Leo and Corkey, Kearney, Nebraska and Randy and Linda of Broken Bow Daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Dale Stunkel, Kearney; sisters Leota Burnett, Broken Bow, and Grace Frese, LasVegas, Nev; Grand children Dalene (Stunkel) Palmesano, Dwight Stunkel both of Lincoln, Nebraska, Martin Haddix, Russell Haddix and Stacie RaNae Haddix all of Kearney, Nebraska; great-grand children Lauren Palmesano, new addition; and step-great-grandchild, Kristen Palmesano both of Lincoln, Nebraska.
