Taylor Whitley married Mehilina Adams and had the following 12 children: Kinchen, James, Elizabeth, Exum (Axum), Vincent, Mary Ann, Frankie, Wylie, William T., Ethie, Noah Bethel & Jefferson Cannon.

Taylor Whitley volunteered for service in the War of 1812. He enlisted in the 2nd Regt. of the Mounted Gunmen of West Tennessee Volunteers on 24 Sep. 1813 and served 104 days until 28 Dec. 1813. His pay as a private was $8.00/month plus 40 cents a day for his horse. He received $2.00 travel expense to return home from Huntsville, AL. (Source: Macon County, Tennessee History & Families)
