George (Alexis) Louis Forcier
Birth: Jul. 5, 1899
Quebec, Canada
Death: Dec. 26, 1965
Seattle
King County
Washington, USA

(Biographical information provided by Bob Riopel, George's grand nephew.)

George Louis Forcier was born and baptized at St. Bonaventure d'Upton de Yamaska in the province of Quebec, Canada on July 5, 1899. Baptized Joseph Alexis Louis Forcier, he was the youngest child of Joseph Eduard Forcier and Marie Duxienné (Brouillard) Forcier. Other siblings were Marie Louise Forcier Robidoux(1890-1960), François Forcuer (1891-?) and Marie Anne Forcier Quenneville (1894-1986).

The Forcier family immigrated to the USA from Canada on April 7, 1909 (via Newport, VT - Canadian Pacific RR #13) and settled in Holyoke, MA. Their destination in Holyoke when they immigrated was Michel Charbonnette, a friend of Joseph Forcier, who lived at 233 High Street.

George (then called Alexies) was later employed as a fireman for the Boston & Maine Railroad at the time he registered for the WWI draft in 1917.

Over the years he called himself by different names. Up until 1923, he called himself Alexies Louis Forcier. From 1921 to 1927 he called himself Alexandre L. Forcier. In fact, when his daughter, Rosabelle, was born on 7 Nov 1921 his name is recorded as Alexandre, as well as when he married Marion Peloquin later that month, on 16 Nov 1921.

Sadly, Marion died at age 20 a little after two months later from what was suspected as tuberculosis. The infant, Rosabelle, was taken in by her grandparents (Desire and Elizabeth Peloquin) and raised with their already large family in South Hadley, MA.

Shortly before his marriage to Marion, on 25 Sep 1921, his mother died. Shortly after Marion's death, the last of his grandparents, Angele ( ) Forcier, died in Canada. The Forcier men (father and two sons) then visited relatives in Canada. Following the return of Alexandre and his father to Holyoke, MA later in 1922, he and his father lived with his sister's (Marie Anne's) family (Quenneville).

Alexandre left Holyoke about 1927. His trail is not picked up until 1943. He was in Seattle, WA in 1943 when he applied for a Social Security Account Number. He was calling himself Georg Louie Forcier when he applied for his SSAN.

Since arriving in Washington, George worked as a laborer. According to his grandson, Joseph "Butchy" Garbacik, sometime during the late 1940s or early 1950s, he returned to Holyoke to visit his daughter. This was confirmed by his daughter (now called Rose). He claimed to have traveled from Washington on a railroad that he had worked for. He remained in Holyoke for a unspecified amount of time before going back to Seattle (not more than a year ot two).

After George's return to Seattle he worked as a driver until his retirement in July of 1965. Shortly after his retirement he was admitted to Seattle General Hospital in early November 1965 for emergancy surgery. He had colon cancer, which soon led to his death while still in the hospital, at age 66, on the day after Christmas. On the Death Certificate the cause of death was "adenicarcinoma of the colon with carcinomatosis." On December 31st 1965 he was given a Christian burial. A chapel service was conducted by Rev. Harry L. Ayers, of the West Seattle Assembly of God church.

George is buried at Riverton Crest Cemetery in Tukwila, WA (King County), in an unmarked grave located at Section K, Lot 33, Space 5.
