Husband's Father, my Father In Law
George Louis Holcomb was born to Dedie and Fannie Holcomb on November 14, 1920, in Canyon, Texas. He was the 10th child born out of 13 total.
He worked as a route salesman for Weber Bread, and was in the bread business for 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #682 and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. The Kern County Veterans Association honored George with the gun salute.
George proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He enjoyed fishing very much and enjoyed music and tinkering with all kinds of mechanical and electrical gadgets. He was devoted to his wife, Eleanor Sarah Holcomb, of 58 years, his family, God, and his Country.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor. Two daughters; and one son; Three grandsons; Three granddaughters; One great granddaughter; and three brothers.
Parkinsons is a sad disease. My dear husband was so devoted to his Dad and tried to make sure his meds didn't overlap so his muscles wouldn't lock up. George and Eleanor roomed together at the assisted living home ~ It was bittersweet.
Eleanor loved participating in the activities. I remember she would always call me when they failed to give George's meds on time. She loved that I would drive over and demand that they give him his pills.
We offered them to stay at our house but they declined. We visited them every day or at least every other day. At times George did not know who his son was due to the Parkinsons. His son and I would still visit and talk to him because that is what family does. They take care of their children, then when it's time for us as adults to take care of our parents we do, and we did as the bible says, honor thy parents.
