Death: Dec. 13, 2009

LOUISE ROSS DUNCAN, of Millington, known to many as "Mamma Granny", passed away in her sleep the morning of December 13, 2009, at 80 years old. Louise was born the youngest child to Leonard and Lucy Ross, on September 1, 1929, in Tate County, MS. She finished her education at Independence consolidated High School in Mississippi before moving to Memphis to work for Independent Tool. She soon met and married T.J.Duncan on December 6, 1946. They settled together in Millington, TN. In 1951, following surgery to remove a brain tumor, she began the courageous journey of life without sight. At the time she had two young babies at home, and went on to have two more. In spite of her blindness, Louise led a full and productive life. She lived, loved, laughed, kept a full house, raised her children, took care of her adoring grandchildren and even became employed outside of the home. She inspired her family and friends to overcome obstacles with her continued spirit and determination. She encouraged them in their successes and carried them through their losses. She was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. Louise and T.J., a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Millington, enjoyed their church as well as various community events. They were surrounded by many friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 15, 5 - 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, December 16, 2 p.m. all at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home with Burial in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. She leaves behind, her loving husband of 63 years, T.J. Duncan; four children, Jeri Dickson and her husband Steve, Kaye Duncan, Paul Duncan and friend, Jennifer Beck, Tim Duncan and wife Linda; five grandchildren, Tammy, Chris, Tim, Nick and Sabrina; as well as five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jeremy, Trenton, Dalton and Makaila; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son, James Franklin Duncan; and her five siblings, Bessie Young, Bonnie Patrick, Billy Ross, Gladys Odom and Hazel Nichols.
