Obituary appearing in "The Abilene Reporter-News", Abilene, TX, on September 4, 1971:
"Mrs. Gula Herring. Stamford. Mrs. Gula Herring, 83, died at 2:03 a.m., Friday, at the West Texas Medical Center in Abilene, TX, where she had been for the past six weeks.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Southerland and the Rev. Bryan Bryant officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery under the direction of Kinney Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 5, 1888, in Copeville, TX, she was the former Gula Neal. She married Clay Herring at Copeville April 2, 1939. He died in 1951. They moved to Stamford in 1941 from Quanah.
Survivors include five daughters: Mrs. James Cox of Lake Jackson; Mrs. R. L. Phillips of Rinana, AZ; Mrs. L. E. Holly of Northridge, CA; Mrs. Leslie Jenkins of Franklin, LA; Mrs. John Wood of Ft. Worth; three sons: Richard of Sedona, AZ; James of San Antonio; and Hiram of Harris; two sisters: Mrs. W.L. Dent of Granbury; Ms. Ruth Graves of Dallas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren."
