Carr was a farmer and a veteran of the Civil War. He joined the Union Army when he was 18 and served as a bugler. He fought in the Battle of Pea Ridge and was with Company E of the 3rd AR Cavalry. He lost a leg and wore a hollow wooden one in which he kept a bottle of liquor according to his great grandaughter, Sybil Condry Jenkins. He homesteaded 40 acres of land in Scott Co., AR (Section 28 of Township 2 North and Range 27 West) on July 15, 1875 at the Dardanelle Land Office. By 1891 when an article was written about him in "Goodspeed", he had sold this land and bought 390 acres at Parks. Later, after 1910, he and Mary Ann moved to Mena in Polk Co., AR. He married Mary Ann Berry on 5 Mar 1865 in Scott Co. AR. Together they had 7 children. After the death of Mary Ann, he married Virginia Hale on 21 Oct 1920. His parents were Beverly A. and Mary J. Allen.
