Clyde Dickson Fuqua, 76, of Bryan passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, at Hillier Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Skaggs of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas, officiating. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 3, at the funeral home.
Clyde was born on March 12, 1932, in Bryan to Lonnie Perry and Mary Dickson Fuqua. Clyde was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He retired as a central office foreman from GTE in 1993, after more than 43 years of service, where he was a mentor to all who worked with him.
He was a past member of College Heights Assembly of God Church in Bryan and recently attended Central Baptist Church of Bryan-College Station.
Clyde was a strong Christian man who served God in all aspects of his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed camping and traveling in his motor home and any activities spent with family and friends. He was a true leader to his family and to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Mary Fuqua; brothers, Milton and Ralph Fuqua; and sister, Doris Murphy.
Survivors include his wife of more than 56 years, Dorothy Helmer Fuqua; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Teresa Fuqua of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Noel Newland of Bryan; grandchildren, Keith Newland and wife, Barbara, Craig Newland and wife, Susan, and Clinton Fuqua, all of Bryan; a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Newland of Bryan; a brother, Bobby Fuqua of Jacksonville, Texas; three sisters, Joyce Keown of Claredon, Texas, Shirley Coakley and Margaret Miner, both of Bryan; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Clyde's family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and kindness provided by St. Joseph Regional Health Center, Hospice Brazos Valley and Brazos Valley Home Health.
