Irene Diane (Gefroh) Feist, 70, 1018 5th Ave. NW, Minot, died Monday December 27, 2004, in a Minot hospital.

She was born April 19, 1934, in Karlsruhe, ND, a daughter of Jacob and Magdelina (Wentz) Gefroh. She was raised and educated in Karlsruhe, graduating from Karlsruhe High School in 1952.

On August 17, 1953, she married Richard Feist at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe. They lived in Karlsruhe until 1957, when they moved to Minot. Irene worked for a short time at Union National Bank in Minot, prior to starting a family. She and Richard had eight children and were very active in the church and community.

Her faith and her family were the centerpieces of her life, woven together in the traditions they upheld, the way they lived their lives and in her commitment to and support of Catholic education, especially as it involved her children and grandchildren. She was an unselfish individual, who cherished her family, and had a keen sense of fairness and compassion. Competitive by nature, she followed high school sports closely, particularly wrestling, in which her sons excelled. She enjoyed socializing and was an excellent cook and hostess. She treasured time spent at the family ranch in Verendrye, and always was ready for a game of cards.

In 1958, after she and Richard moved to Minot, he founded Minot Sash & Door, Inc. She maintained strong friendships among the company's employees and planted flowers on the company grounds for the last 42 years. This year was the first time she missed the Minot Sash annual Christmas party.

Irene and Richard were among the charter members of Little Flower Catholic Parish. She also was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers there.
