Father of 7 children John Robert, Jeanne Marie, Richard Eugene, Mary Jane ,Frances Carol, William Edward and Mildred Marie. Born at the farm beside Paradise Protectory for Boys in Abbottstown , Penna. He was a tractor trailer driver for Hall's Motor Freight in York for many years. He was a carpenter ,like his father and were many of his uncles and brothers. He worked with his father and helped build the indoor gym and track that is located in St Mary's Catholic School on S George St in York. They also built the chapel for the convent where the Sisters of St Francis resided beside the school.
He was very involved with his children. When he retired from Halls Motor Freight, he went to work with his son John,at his Sunoco service station on Longstown Rd. Many who stopped at the station called him "Pop" as did his own family. His sons bought land in the Black Moshannon State Forest and he helped build a hunting lodge for all to use. The name is the Buck Rub Lodge -due to the many sitings of deer. He was also an avid golfer who went every Sunday to Mass first then to golf. He also was a bowler and was on many teams throughout his life. Sadly it was during one of these games where he got up to bowl his turn and suffered a major deadly heart attack. With him that night were his oldest son, John , youngest son William and oldest grandson Alan Godfrey. Attempts were futile and we lost our Pop.
He was the glue that kept his children together. We all love him so much and not a day goes by that we do not think of him.I hope he knows how much he was loved. He is at peace and helps watch over us daily.
A very grateful woman deeply thanks a extremely gracious fellow FAG friend for sponsoring this memorial.Thank you Betty.
