HIGHTOWER Kenneth Dykes, husband of Doris Garrison Hightower and father of Scott Alan Hightower (Wilmore), Cynthia (David) Wiseman (Lexington), Edwin Carl (Susan) Hightower (Orlando, FL), & Paul Logan Hightower (Lexington), went home to be with his Lord on June 24, 2009 at Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, KY. Ken was born on July 23, 1926 in Ft. Worth, TX, being the second son of Eva Dee Dykes and Edwin Connery Hightower. He is predeceased by both parents and his brother, Edwin Connery Hightower, Jr. and sister-in-law, Lois Hightower. In addition to his spouse and children, he is survived by 10 grandchildren, Michael, Valerie, Alan, April, Laurel, Jennifer, Rachel, Becky, Steve, and Matt; 5 great grandchildren, 2 nephews and 1 niece. After serving 2 years in the US Navy, Ken was honorably discharged on Aug 13, 1946. In June 1950 he completed his education at Texas A&M University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and a commission in the US Army Reserves. He then began his 40 years of employment with the Square D Company, which first included training experience in Detroit, MI and Milwaukee, WI. His work years included positions in Jacksonville, FL, Birmingham, AL, Ft. Worth, TX, Shreveport, LA, New Orleans, LA, Los Angeles, CA and Lexington, KY where he retired in 1990. In 1976 he fulfilled a life long dream by earning his private pilots license and purchased a Cessna 150 airplane. Ken and Doris enjoyed years of flying around the country in the Cessna and various other small airplanes. Visitation Milward- Southland on Sun, June 28, 4-6pm. Service of remembrance Mon, June 29th, 1pm at Milward Southland, Rev. Colette Hensley officiating. Private interment at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Crestwood Christian Church, 1882 Bellefonte Dr., Lexington, KY 40503. (Published in Lexington Herald-Leader on 6/27/2009)

My father. Although we miss him terribly, Daddy had been ill for a long time. He lived a full life, achieving most if not all of his life dreams.
