Welcome Hill was the son of Benjamin and Sally (Bryer) Hill. Benjamin and Sally were married in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, but they had moved to Rhode Island where Welcome Hill was born, the second of seven children. The family had finally settled in the part of Wayne County, New York, that eventually came to be known as Macedon Township. There Welcome met and married Susan Hayward and had four children: Nelson, Caroline, Alonzo and Frances Ellen. Welcome's mother died between 1827 and 1836. Benjamin remarried and moved to Medina County, Ohio. Welcome died in 1852. His wife and children later moved to Michigan.
