Lloyd Ransom Kelley, son of, Albion Ransom and Grace Ellen (Smith) Kelly.
Llyod Ransom Kelley married Grace Ellen Byrum November 18, 1938 in Albia, Iowa.
On the 29th of July 1934, Lloyd R. Kelley enlisted in Ottumwa, Iowa into the National Guard as a private first class. He was in Troop E 113th Cavalry, Iowa. He was at the age of 22 years and his frame stood at 5 ft. 8 inches tall. His field training was at Camp Dodge, Iowa between 11 August to 25 August 1935. After serving for 1 year, 5 months, and 17 days he was honorably discharged at Fort Des Moines, Iowa.
The next day 26 of February 1936 he enlisted into the Army. While in Fort Des Moines as a private special 6 class, in Battery E, 80th Field Artillery. He was honorably dischared on 29 June 1938 for dependency at Fort Des Monines due to the death of his father, Albion Ransom Kelley.
January 28, 1941 he was called to active duty by the Adutant General's office. Notified by mail to show up in Fort Des Moines on February 12, 1941. On that date he enlisted into the Army. His outfit was shipped to Fort Leonard, Mo. On June 1, 1942, he was promoted to Corporal.
He was a veteran of World War II.
He worked and retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works,Iowa.
He is survived by: His wife, Grace Ellen (Byrum) Kelley, his one daughter, Mary Lou (Kelly) and son-in-law Leonard Bruce Steinbrink, his three sons, Lloyd Anthony, Wade, Alan Lee Kelley, and seven grandchildren.
Lloyd Ransom Kelley, 60, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday 1 Nov 1972 at Ottumwa Hospital.
Born Sun. 22 Sept 1912 in Blakesburg, Iowa, the son of Albion Ransom Kelley & Grace Ellen Smith. He had lived in Hedrick, Iowa for the past 15 years; was a retired employee of John Deere Ottumwa Works, and a World War II Vetern.
He was married in Albia, Iowa on 18 Nov 1938 to Grace Ellen Byrum.
Surviving are his wife, Grace; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Steinbrink, Albany, Oregon; three sons, Lloyd Anthony, Wade Allen, and Alan Lee all at home; one brother Maurice, of Ottumwa, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Marie Jerred, of Agency, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Mrs. Marjorie Johns; died Fri 11:50 a.m. 11 Feb 1972, and one brother, Merle Franklin, died 5:30 a.m. Sunday 13 Jul 1958. His father died Tue 6 p.m. 3 May 1938 (Albion Ransom), his mother Grace Ellen died 3 a.m. Sunday 19 Oct 1952; the four are all buried in Shaul Cemetery Ottumwa, Iowa R.R. #2.
Funeral Services for Mr. Kelley were Sat 3 p.m. 4 Nov 1972 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, Iowa with the Rev. Jordan Jacobsen of Hedrick Lutheran Church officiating.
Graveside services were in charge of the Hedrick American Legion. Burial was in Brooks Cemetery; Benton township; Block #5, Secion #3, 3rd Addition, Lot 15. Iowa
