Father of Greene Austin
Samuel Austin fought with the Continental Army for a short time as a young boy.
Samuel was a Revolutionary War soldier from North Carolina.
Samuel and Catherine Paine were married in 1795 in North Carolina. Catherine was born in Spotsylvania, Va., Sep. 16, 1771. to Robert Bynum Payne , Sr. and Rachel Ellen Lord.
They had nine children: Anna, Mary, Temperance, John, Greene, Jennie, Catherine, Sarah and Samuel III.
The family moved to Greene, County, Missouri, about 1835. His son, Greene Austin had moved to Greene County, Missouri, earlier with the Freeman family. Greene Austin married Nancy Freeman. John Austin married Rachel Freeman.
Samuel received a war service pension and bounty land.
Samuel died in 1854 and was buried in the family cemetery near what is now near the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and U.S. 65. It was near the farm where William Freeman family lived. March 1913, his remains were moved to Hazelwood Cemetery and placed beside his son, Greene and daughter-in-law, Nancy.
