Ellis Clees was born on a farm in Fairfield Twp. Lycoming Co. PA. He enlisted in the Union army at about age 17 in Harrisburg PA on 14 Feb. 1862. He served in the 18th Regiment Infantry, Company C, Regular U.S. Army. The 18th saw action at Shilo, TN, also Bardstown, Texas and Perryville KY. The battle of Perryville 6 Oct was probably Ellis's last. He died 16 Oct. of typhoid fever at Nashville TN.
