Hachikō was an Akita dog born on a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture. He is remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner Hidesaburō Ueno. Everyday Hachikō would wait for his owner at the Shibuya Train Station and would meet him at the end of the day. One day his owner died from a cerebral hemorrhage and never returning to the train station where Hachikō was waiting. Every day for the next nine years the golden brown Akita waited at Shibuya station. Hachikō died on March 8, 1935, and was found on a street in Shibuya. The dog died of terminal cancer he also had filaria infection (worms). A movie was made in 2009 with Richard Gere telling the story of Hachikō plus children's books were written.
