Delberta (Sims) Simpson
(October 24, 1914 - February 18, 2006)
A celebration of life and memorial service for Delberta Sims Simpson was held on Feb. 20, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne with Rev. Bob Garrard officiating. A second memorial service and interment of her remains will be in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, Calif. at a later date.
Delberta passed away Feb. 18, at her apartment at Aspen Winds after a three-year battle with lymphoma. She was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Newport, Neb., to Albert "Bert" and Della Rogers Sims (her name is a combination of her parent's names).
In 1909, the Sims family purchased the Twenty Mile Ranch north of Lost Springs, Wyoming and this is where Delberta spent the first 23 years of her life. That ranch is now owned by her niece, Mae Ann Manning and her family.
Delberta Sims and Roe Simpson were married 22 June 1938 in Lusk, Niobrara, Wyoming. They met at a church social when Roe purchased Delberta's Box Lunch. They lived in Lance Creek, Wyoming, to be near where Roe was working in the oil fields. In 1946, they moved their family to Madera, Calif., where they lived for the next 45 years. They both worked for the Madera School District and Delberta was the pastry cook at the High School until her retirement. Following Roe's death, Delberta moved back to Cheyenne in 1991 to be closer to family. While there, she joined the Magic City Rebekah Lodge No. 100F and the First Presbyterian Church.
Her parents, husband, one brother Ceil Sims, two sisters Edna Fullerton and Gladys Amend preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter Joan and husband Gary of Temple Hills, MD, a son Albert and wife Lucy of Cheyenne, granddaughter Angela Ekker of Denver, Colo. and nieces Mae Ann Manning and family, Mary and husband Chuck Engebretsen and family of Lost Springs, a nephew Dale and wife Jackie Fullerton of Rapid City, S.D., and family and a niece Della Mae and husband Ben Coon of Torrington and family plus a host of other family and friends.
