Former Alaska resident Robert W. ''Bob'' Huff, 76, died of cancer complications Sept. 7, 1998, in Salem, Ore. Memorial services were held at South Salem Friends Church.
Mr. Huff was born March 27, 1922, in Colorado. He graduated from Bliss High School in Bliss, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945 and was a master sergeant. He married Donna Russell Feb. 14, 1942, in Hagerman, Idaho. Mr. Huff moved to Alaska after World War II via the Alaska Steamship Co. He mined for gold by Knik Glacier, ran the Handy grocery store there, and went to work in the airline business. Mr. Huff retired after 27 years with Wien Air Alaska as an assistant vice president. He moved to Salem from Anchorage in 1996. Mr. Huff enjoyed snowbirding in Mesa, Ariz. He was an active member in the Public Utility District of Fairview, was instrumental in getting water and sewer in the area, and was president of the PTA, a Boy Scout leader and pioneer. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Huff is survived by his wife, Donna of Salem; son, Richard Huff of Anchorage; daughter, Judith Cloninger of Dyersburg, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be sent to Evergreen Hospice, P.O. Box 12144, Salem, Ore. 97309. Arrangements were by Keizer Funeral Chapel in Keizer, Ore.
