Oliver and Mary were baptized by Elder John Taylor in June 1837 in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Within a year they packed their family and left for life as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Kirtland, Ohio to Missouri to Illinois where they heard the shots of the mob when Joseph Smith was killed. After several years of living in Nauvoo, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri they were able to assemble the necessary supplies and animals to cross the plains and join the Church in Utah locating in American Fork where they were to live out their lives.
