Richard Evan Childs was born July 14, 1893, near Britton, South Dakota, and came with his parents to White Salmon in 1907.
Entering the high school the same year, he was a member of the first class to graduate from the White Salmon high school.
After graduation, he purchased a farm and lived with his parents until called into service of this country in October 1917. He became a member of Company B 316th Engineers of the 91st Division. He sailed for France in July 1918 and soon was taking an active part in the high drive of the Allies against the Germans. He was killed in the battle of Meuse-Argonne on September 29th, 1918.
Deceased was a member of Goodwill Lodge No. 188 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He leaves to mourn his death a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. F.O. Childs of this city; three brothers, three sisters and other relatives, besides a host of friends.
