Born in Matzendorf, Solothurn, Switzerland
28 Mar 1883 arrived in New York on the Amerique with his wife, 8 children and his mother.
The family joined his brother, Joseph, in Turners Falls, Franklin, MA, where they worked in a cutlery. Moved from Turners Falls to Bennington, Hillsborough, NH, where he worked in a Hancock cutlery.
In 1890, moved to Northampton, MA where he worked in the International Silver cutlery. He bought the farm on Burts Pit Road on 16 January 1899 at a tax lien sale by the city.
In June 1922, Jacob, Marie, and their daughter Mary, returned to Switzerland for the last time.
His death was announced on page 1, below the fold, in the Daily Hampshire Gazette as "Coolidge's Milkman Dies"
